The short answer
ShingleGuard does the same kind of job: a spray-applied, plant-based treatment that rejuvenates aging asphalt shingles, with a roof tune-up and a 5-year warranty. We’re a local, Arizona-licensed company, our price is published ($1.00 to $1.25 per square foot), and the treatment we use is 96% USDA Certified Biobased and tested by an independent asphalt lab.
Same idea, different company
Roof Maxx is a national brand of soy-based roof rejuvenation, sold and applied by independently owned dealers. Rejuvenation is a good idea for the right roof, whoever applies it: an aging asphalt shingle roof that’s drying out but still sound. If you’re looking at Roof Maxx, you’re already on the right track. This page is here so you can compare before you choose.

What the treatment we use has been tested for
- Brought shingles from roofs more than 15 years old back to nearly new flexibility in Iowa State University testing
- Chemically bonds with aged asphalt, unlike a plain soy oil tested alongside it
- Untreated shingles shed nearly twice as many granules as treated ones in independent lab testing
- Treated shingles kept their Class A fire rating, with slightly less flame spread
- Rain runoff from treated shingles tested free of environmental contaminants
- USDA Certified Biobased (96%), biodegradable, and covered by a U.S. patent issued in 2025
The details, with charts, are on our roof rejuvenation science page.
What our tune-up includes
Every ShingleGuard treatment includes the small fixes most aging roofs need, at no extra charge:
- Installing a Perma-Boot on every plumbing vent pipe. It slides right over the old pipe flashing, so no shingles are removed or replaced, and its gasketless design leaves no rubber collar to crack in the sun. It’s made to stop leaks at the vent pipes, one of the most common sources of roof leaks, and the manufacturer warranties it for the life of your existing shingles.
- Replacing a few damaged or missing shingles
- Resealing vents and flashing
- Securing loose shingles and popped nails
- Cleaning out your gutters and clearing debris off the roof
Anything bigger, like storm damage or rotted decking, is quoted separately and in writing before any work.
Questions to ask any rejuvenation company
- 1What is your Arizona Registrar of Contractors license number? (Check it at roc.az.gov.)
- 2What is the price per square foot, and how did you measure my roof?
- 3What exactly does the tune-up include, and what costs extra?
- 4What does the warranty cover, is it prorated, and what does it exclude?
- 5What independent testing backs the product, including its fire rating?
We’re glad to answer every one of these in writing.
